I live...

Wow, I really haven't put much on here lately. For the couple that noticed my absence, I do yet live. My only explantion is I have had TOO much time on my hands these days, and as a result I have played too many video games. (specifically, NBA 2k8... i stuck a fake super hero on the Bulls and have pulled them to the playoffs!)

One reason is that I was pretty sick this past weekend, having contracted some stomach virus that my brother gave to my brother gave to my mother gave to me. I just have to reitterate how much I HATE vomitting...it is possibly the worst physical feeling a human can naturally go through in my opinion. (I dare liken it unto the exact opposite of an orgasm. Ahem...moving on...) and it doesn't help that I am the most vocal vomitter ever. Cass high tailed it to her mom's house while I quarantined myself for a day or so.

Also, I am currently jobless. That's right kids, the Big Kirk is a bum while his lovely wife rakes in the cash for us. I don't consider that a good thing. I have looked a bit though. I have put in resume's to a few publishing companies for possible illustration jobs, and a few other random places doing other random things. Anyone have any leads on a good semi-job that will work with my school? If not that, at least something decent for the summer? Help me out, peops!

Furthermore, I have seen some good flicks lately:

This is a tad late, so most of you have possibly seen it already. But if not, I have seen it twice for you. Are you a fan of Dr. Jones? If you are, I think you should like the new one. Too many people expect too much from a movie like this. Were the originals GREAT movies? Not really, but they were some of the FUNNEST you'll ever see. No doubt by now everyone has heard of the sci-fi-ish ending that alot are hating over. I honestly didn't mind it. Of course, this is coming from the kid who LOVES the heart sucking Temple of Doom (why does everyone hate that one?? Docta Jone! Docta Jone!). One thing I loved about his new one is the no holds barred rediculous action stunts. Its hilarious and cool at the same time, and I think its supposed to be. Give it a shot and have fun. Indy still got game! I'd give it 7 out of 10 Crystal Skulls.

Cass and I got a chance to see The Fall in the one theater it was playing in Utah.
Many of you probably haven't heard of it, but we've been waiting for it for months. Staring Lee Pace (from the genius Pushing Daisies show that returns this fall!) as an injured silent film stuntman, and a brilliant performance by Cantinca Untaru as a fellow hospital patient that will cute the buttons off your shirt and tug the tears out your eyes. Its somewhat of a Princess Bride type of movie, where a story is being told, and we see it through the innocent imagination of a child. It is rated R for some slight violence as well as mature themes including suicide, but it is an outright fabulous movie. It is a little "artsy" and could be hard to follow at first, but I suggest it to anyone willing to give it a shot. BEAUTIFUL cinematography (shot in 18 different countries) with a very touching and often humorous story. I give it a 9.5 out of 10. Here's a preview:

Speaking of NBA, though my favorite team (the Jazz) did loose, my favorite player (Kevin Garnett) pulled the Celtics to a finals appearance and is set to begin his annihilation of Kobe-frickin'-Bryant tonight! Its gonna be a rumble of historic proportions as the two franchises witht he most Finals wins in history face off yet again! Party at Blair's. FO SHO

Well, I also started up a seperate blog dedicated to my art for the sake of making a mini-portfolio of sorts (link at top right of page). I'll update it now and then with new and old stuff, so check it on out if''n ya like! Here's a lil somethin recent to get ya there.

FINALLY, FINALS ARE FINALIZED...!!!

UGH!! Finals weeks SUCK! This was possibly the most I've had to work my butt off during a finals week. At the same time, its been more rewarding. Not only did my history teacher assign us a dandy 12 page paper (!!!) at the last minute, but I had these doozies to work on. Anyway, here are my two final projects.

FIGURE DRAWING: Assignment - Take an artist of which we appreciate their take on the figure and emulate their style in a unique composition (did that make sense?)
I could tell you who I chose, but what's the fun in that? Anyone guess? The artist was a painter, but me being the horrible painter that I am decided the closest I can get is by computer. So, I drew it up, and had me a digipainting session.
I used my two brothers as models, then the teacher informed me we needed a third figure...so I included butt ugly Gulkee Goo on the right there. (he is also based off one of my brothers...but the face is altered...slightly... :)

Update: This I have already turned in and the teacher loved it

ILLUSTRATION: Assignment - Illustrate and make a small book at least six pages. Still haven't offically MADE the thing yet...but finally finished the illustrations! The story is based off of my cousin Deirdre's short story of Chuck the Chicken. (I'll have to put that on here sometime too for reference!) These are also drawn then colored in the computer. I went for a really raw look, but I think it turned out good. Deirdre was happy so that's all I need! These are actually meant to be viewed small too, the book I was making is pretty tiny.

Well....PHEW! Thanks Cass for putting up with me. I love ya!

Stuffage

Here is a few thangs I've been doin as of late...

RANDOM SKETCHEMS:

Some heads! If you've seen alot o' my stuffs, you probably seen these guys. Just used some cheap (but oh so fun!) markers n' such. I should do a "head series" for the Bugman group.

PROJECT:

These are some sketchies of characters from some short stories my cousin Dierdre wrote. We are gonna colaborate hard core. I'll keep ya posted as it develops.

This one is for a story bout a chicken who wants to be a crow. A crow! (Crow not seen here...)
Another about a dragon with allergies. Yikes!

SCHOOL:

Sir Thom and his minions. This is for an assignment. The poster is supposed to have like two colors, but I thought one looked fine.

Dig it

Some non-nude things

Just thought I'd put up some stuff. Dig?

Finally busted out the "Digital Tablet" (fingers in the air) and decided to practice by coloring Mr. Bugm'n here. Low quality scan original, so the file is kinda pixicated (yes, I just made that word up.)

This is a scan from a linoleum carved print I did. Carved, inked, and slapped on to papa'. It accidently folded if ya can't tell.

From figure drawing. Can ya see it? Tis a lady (clothed!)...created entirely of paper scraps. I was very NOT excited to do this assignment, but somehow it turned out perdy nice. (Still not sure I should put up anything from what REALLY goes down in there. wink wink)

Some quick facial studies I thought were fun. That old guy's expression could be explained in so many disturbing ways.

Some stuff I been workin' on...

The assignment was to do two quill pen drawings, each with a different style. I've never used quill pens before, and you can see where the ink dripped n' stuff. We weren't supposed to do any gray tones either. Not too shabby I suppose. (descriptions below images)

"They didn't think there would be mermaids..."
More of a Classic Pooh style. Winnie the Pan and Tinklet see a mermaid under the bridge.

"Tigger the Hook"

More of a cartoony, Disney-ish style. That's what Tiggers do best.

This is a portrait of my Grandpa in his navy days I did for his 80th birthday...I'm not to confident in my portraits. I dunno how I like it, but he did, so that's what counts.

Meanwhile...

Well, I do intend to put a best albums list up. Maybe I should wait until next year, combine the two. In the meantime, I am enjoying my classes so far this semester. Dunno if I'll put much up from my Figure Drawing class...(for your sakes) but here's a lil somethin from illustration. I combined a couple o' classics. Its a work in progress...What ya think?
Its a light sketch, but thought I'd share Winnie the Pan and Tinklet. I didn't wanna look at anything so I could try to give it my own flair. I am also working on a drawing for my Gramps (OF my Gramps) for his 80th b-day. Tut tut, it looks like rain!

The Finished Product

So I finished the book I made for Kyler. It took a lot longer than I thought it would for some reason, but I ended up finishing it at 6 am yeterday, then I went to bed, didn't get to sleep until about 8, and got up and went to work at 9. BUT... its all good cuz it turned out perdy durned swell. Here tis! Please don't copy or use these without my permission eh??? FER PETE'S SAKE!!! Pssh...

Kyler always get a lil Mississippi Leg Hounded by Toby. ("Tobe" for short)

I'm the one with dark hair.
