Summa Movie Preview

Finally its starting to get a little warmer, and my skin a little darker. Ok...that's a lie. But Summa' Time is just around the corner. My Cass has made herself a summer mix (which she has posted at her blog) and I definately need to do that as well. But, for now, its dem movies that are on my mind.
Most of you that know me well know I am a movie geek. My friends usually start a conversation about movies with "how is this movie?" rather than "have you seen this movie yet?" I don't get around as much as I did, but I still see myself a flick or two when they come around. Last week began the onslaught of summer movie mayhem. From now until August, every single week has something that I must see. I write this now cuz I am still on a high from this week's arrival (more on that later).
LAST WEEK:

ch-Check. Saw it twice. Marvel does it AGAIN! One of the best comic book movies ever created, in my opinion. Not only are the special effects and action scenes inevitably amazing, it has a very modern and compelling story, GREAT acting, and its also hilarious. (Director John Favreau directed Elf among other things). Yes, it is as good as it seems. If you haven't seen it yet, I don't think you should be my friend until you do. I usually don't give official ratings, but if I did, I'd give it 5/5 Iron Men.

THIS WEEK:

Whew! I just got back from this one and boy are my arms tired! Ba-HA! I have noticed this movie is not getting great reviews. Why? Because all those official critics sitting behind a bland mahogany desk in a room with no sunshine have not sat and watched saturday morning cartoons, specifically Japanese cartoons, through their whole childhood (and into adulthood for some of us). They never had a childhood, they didn't kick it old school. Fan of the series or not, if you enjoy the over the top bombast of most things Japanese, this live-action anime will have your heart racing. I suppose it might be too much for SOME of you...but I absolutely loved it. Its only possible flaw is that it was slightly long, but I didn't notice much with how fast paced it was. I literally cheered when Speed would win (I mean...or does he lose? Ahem...), and after the flick was over I stood up and burst into Nihongo with my fist in the air. "Kore kara mo IKUZO!" 4.5/5 chimps in suits. (This movie got me so Japanisized I think I shall finally make a list of my fav Japanese music artists...stay tuned!)

And here is the forcast until August...

MAY:

next week - Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

Week 4 - Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Week 5 - Sex & the City (I have an obsessed wife...)

JUNE:

week 1 - Kung Fu Panda

week 2 - The Happening, The Incredible Hulk

week 3 - Get Smart

week 4 - Wall-E, Wanted

JULY:

week 1 - Hancock

week 2 - Hellboy 2: the Golden Army

week 3 - The Dark Knight

week 4 - Step Brothers, X-Files: I Want to Believe

Am I a nerd or what? And proud of it! And these don't include the myriad of limited release films I probably won't get to see (for example The Fall) and the few in August (Star Wars Clone Wars). If'n any o' ya's wants to party harty with us at these films, you are welcome to join the festifications.

On a fun side note, today I saw cousin Dave and his wife Karen and met their chubbalub, Eli. Twas good to catch up and remember old school times (like...semi trucks? I have pictures...)

To be continued...

Yay for speed racer!(i haven't seen Ironman yet- but if i had then i'm sure i would be 'yay'ing that too) Anyway- I totally agree with you on Speed Racer. Critics suck- that movie rocked! I didn't even notice how long it was- I was so into it that the time just flew by. It was GREAT! I totally plan on going to a lot of those movies with you guys, my wallet won't allow all of them, though. See you at Narnia the weekend!

Taylor saw Iron Man and loved every second of it! It looks like you've got some good flicks on your list, I myself am holding out for the next Harry Potter and the Twilight movie in December

Well Chris, I will definitely have to use your site as a reference before I go see any movie. I, as of yet, have seen none of them (I guess that means I'm not your friend because I haven't seen Ironman yet. Actually, I'm not even on your buddy list yet, so I guess that could mean I'm not your friend..? Rude!). We don't get out much, but Rob is insisting we see one soon. He's especially excited for Indiana Jones.

Iron Man left me extremely satisfied! Probably the best Marvel movie I have ever seen! I apreciate your taste for up comin movies, except for Sex in the City. Gracious me that whore drives me nuts in those shows! I have always thought she looks like a walking STD. I love you

Big L for loser--I haven't seen any action movies. Did see "What Happens in Vegas" with my girlfriends--funny. And my computer is too kid-proof to watch your animation. Lame--Big L can also stand for lame.

I'm also jealous you saw Dave and Karen. I called once, got ahold of nobody and assumed they were only in town for the rest of the weekend. I later found out they were here for two weeks.

I will, however see you soon at Meg's baby blessing!!
